Friday Favorites #15

Memorial Day weekend is upon us! I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by and that we are (unofficially) to the start of summer. Being in Michigan now, the boys still have 2 1/2 weeks left of school but we’re close! Grandpa is in town for the weekend along with Ryan’s sister, her husband, and our sweet niece Hazel. We’re looking forward to some quality family time at the lake. The weather is looking great, too!

Keep reading for this week’s roundup of Friday Favorites. Thank you stopping by and enjoy the holiday weekend!

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

I have not been in the mood for historical fiction lately and have been gravitating toward quick, fun reads. This book was a thrilling, suspenseful ride! I always love a good mystery and Lucy Foley delivered with this one. I used to read thrillers all the time and forgot how much I love this genre. It’s filled with interesting characters and has you questioning the whole time. There are plot twists sprinkled throughout the book, not just at the end, and it’s not too predictable. I am not quite finished yet and can’t wait to see how it ends.

I have not read The Guest List so adding that to my “Want to Read” list!

Starborough Sauvignon Blanc

I know I live in wine country now, but sometimes the cheap bottles are all you need! This is the time of year I switch from red to white and tend to gravitate toward a Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio. I picked this bottle up at Target and for the price it is a really delicious white wine. It’s crisp, refreshing, and perfect for summer. Definitely a new go-to!

Getting the Dock in the Water

You know summer is close when you begin to see docks in the lakes! Our goal was to get ours in before Memorial Day weekend and we did it! I am looking forward to all the memories on that dock: catching minnows, jumping in for a swim, dangling feet in the water, enjoying a picnic lunch. Putting the dock in also means the boat hoist is in. We picked up our pontoon boat out of storage this week and looking forward to getting it in the water very soon. This will be our first full summer up here and we are excited!

We’re ready for you summer!

Planting Flowers

I planted some annuals this week! I jumped the gun a little early and actually had to cover them Wednesday and Thursday night (oops!), but they look lovely! This is the first year we’ve had time to tend to the gardens at our cottage and whew it’s been some work. While we have a long way to go, I was able to get a few beds looking pretty. I planted some zinnias and hope they thrive because they’re one of my favorites!

Next step: mulch!

Shark Performance UltraLight Corded Stick Vacuum with DuoClean

I decided to give up on the cordless vacuum (although I have never splurged on an expensive, high-end vacuum so maybe one day I will). While I love the idea of cordless, the ones I have purchased in the past always break and don’t seem to have the best suction power. I saw this vacuum on sale for under $200 at Costco and decided to give it a go. This vacuum is pretty awesome! It has really good suction–what I thought was a clean rug definitely was not! The cord is very long and doesn’t tangle so I can cover a lot of area without having to change outlets. I also like how the top detaches as a handheld vacuum for furniture, stairs, and those hard-to-reach places. I just purchased this week, so we’ll see how long it lasts, but for the price I think it was totally worth it!
