Friday Favorites #49: Book Roundup!

Annie June 14, 2024 Comments2

Hello! Today I turn 38 which is hard to wrap my head around. I still feel 28 so I guess that’s a good thing haha! I am meeting up with some friends for lunch and then we will celebrate as a family for dinner this evening. Looking forward to a nice day:)

In lieu of my typical Friday Favorites post, I thought I would share a roundup of all the books I’ve read this past month. So fellow bookworms, keep scrolling! If reading isn’t your thing, then this blog post probably isn’t for you haha.

Books 1 & 2 of the Throne of Glass Series by Sarah Maas

Last year I read ACOTAR by Sarah Maas and absolutely loved it. I think the Harry Potter fan in me was excited to dive into fantasy again, this time with some added spice and gore. I will be honest and say I was not sure about the Throne of Glass series at first. It took me some time to get into. But now I am hooked! It has a fierce main female character, lots of suspenseful action, romance, magic, and adventure. Can’t wait to start reading book 3!

Go as a River by Shelley Read

Boy was this a beautiful story that just tugged at your heart strings. Go as a River is Shelley Read’s debut novel and her writing did not disappoint. If you are looking for a happy, lighthearted summer read then I would maybe pass this one up. It’s a pretty sorrowful story with hard to read tragedy. However, I couldn’t put it down because you can’t help but root for the resilient main character. This truly is a story about love. Young love. The love of a new mother. The love of a child. It’s one of those books that will stay with you because you just feel it in your heart! I hope for more from this author!

These Silent Woods by Kimi Cunningham Grant

Wow, this was a good one! These Silent Woods follows a father and his 8-year-old daughter living in isolation in the Appalachian Mountains. While this is a thrilling, suspenseful book it also depth and heart. Having an 8-year-old myself, I especially found myself caring deeply for the characters and their relationships. It was tenderhearted in so many ways and Grant really knows how to depict raw, human emotions. There were many quotable passages. One that stood out to me: “The thing about grace is you don’t deserve it. You can’t earn it. You can only accept it. Or not.” There were many more, that I almost want to buy this book, read again, and highlight them all! This is also one you just have to keep reading to see how it all ends.

The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston

Now this is the one you’re looking for if you want a fun summer read! The Seven Year Slip has a unique plot in which the main character, Clementine, goes back in time seven years only inside her inherited aunt’s NYC apartment. There she meets Iwan and finds herself “chasing the moon”. This is a really cute read and simply makes your heart happy. All the characters are loveable, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself reading it. If you like touching, emotional stories with some witty dialogue and magic then definitely give this one a go!
