Goodbye April

Hi all! I am just popping on to give you a snapshot of our weekend. It was a pretty good one! They always go by so fast, don’t they? And this week, you know what they say…

Friday

If you read my recent Friday Favorites post, you know Grandpa was here for part of our weekend. After school, the boys played outside for a bit while grandpa and daddy put in some more work on the deck. Everyone was getting pretty hungry, and we decided on Dick’s Pour House in Lake Leelanau for dinner. We ordered way too much pizza haha but of course had a great time. They always let kids pick out of their treasure chest so that was definitely a highlight. Drew picked a Mr. Potato Head figure, Lucas a handheld marble maze, and Owen a toy praying mantis. Funny story-we got in the van and Owen could not find his new toy. Obviously, he was very distraught over this. Grandpa took him back inside and they looked everywhere. Still couldn’t find it. Then daddy took him back inside to look yet again. Owen says to Ryan, “It’s okay daddy, we can go back to the van.” Apparently, it was in his pocket the whole time! Classic haha!

Saturday

Saturday morning started bright and early with a soccer game in Maple City at Myles Kimmerly Park. Grandpa cooked up one more hot breakfast of bacon and eggs for the boys. He sure does spoil them! Since Ryan is coach, we arrived early and found an empty field to start warming up. Owen immediately noticed a teepee up on the hill, so spent most of the game there!

Lucas scored the first goal of the game, yay! We were down three players with no substitutions, so everyone had to play the whole game. Even though we lost, our team played their hearts out.

After the game, we said our goodbyes to grandpa and headed home. We spent some down time at home for a few hours. Owen had a birthday party in the afternoon I was going to take him to. Ryan decided he would do something fun with Drew and Lucas while we were gone.

The birthday party was at a gymnastics center which is actually located in the mall. After dropping Owen off, I hung out with anther mom and her kiddos which was nice. We got ourselves some Auntie Anne’s pretzel bites and chatted. I didn’t take any photos though!

Ryan took Drew and Lucas on a bike ride all the way to downtown! They stopped at MiddleCoast Brewing for an appetizer and drinks. Then they biked back (starting and ending at DeYoung Natural Area). Drew rides on a tag along bike which is perfect for him. Ryan said right when he started pedaling, Drew shouted out “Weeeeeee!” Too cute. Lucas was also stoked to get a long ride in on his new bike.

Owen and I beat them home, so we just hung out. He wanted to make a paper crown (see photo below). Owen got quite the goodie bag from the party and his favorite item by far was the yoyo. He was so enamored with it and has been asking me to wind it up over and over and over again lol. Once daddy and brothers arrived home, we decided on an outing to Veronica Valley to search for morel mushrooms. Owen took the yoyo with him haha.

While we didn’t find any mushrooms, the boys did find multiple snakes and frogs! Ah the joys of being a boy mom!

We ended the day with a movie night (the classic Free Willy) and homemade smoothies. It was a really great Saturday!

Sunday

Sunday was a pretty lazy day. It was overcast, rainy, and a bit cooler. I made the boys blueberry pancakes for breakfast, then Ryan took them to the park for some soccer practice. That gave me the chance to work on this blog post:) I also baked some chocolate chip cookies (not from scratch, but still delicious!).

Ryan returned home with the boys, and we all had some lunch. Lucas and Ryan decided to watch a movie while I tackled the task of transferring all my spices and herbs to pretty jars with labels (since they are on display). About a week ago, I scored a cute little shelf off Facebook Marketplace as I have been looking for some type of wall spice rack. We have a very small kitchen with limited cabinet space so anyway to free that up is a win!

Ryan simply added a shelf inside so the jars would sit higher and hung it up for me yesterday. Obsessed! Love that handy husband of mine!

Lucas was invited to a friend’s house for a playdate. He spent quite a bit of the afternoon there. Owen, Drew, and I enjoyed some snuggles:)

I threw a pot of chili together for dinner. I have read somewhere online that if you eat with candlelight and the lights off it promotes a more calm, enjoyable family dinner. I mean it was only one time, but it seemed to work! No lack of manners, loud talking, excessive movement…I will definitely try it again! I also bought the taper candles and holders from the Dollar Tree so a cheap idea too!

Mac and cheese for Lucas and Owen lol

After dinner, it was time to get ready for bed. Sometimes before bed, Ryan will hop in bed with Owen, and they watch silly videos together on his phone. One popped up of a delicious looking fish dinner and Owen goes “Is that North Atlantic Cod?” It’s so funny all his little five-year-old brain knows! I will miss its cuteness one day.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading today! Have a wonderful week!
