Hello March

March is here! February flew on by and I can’t believe our Disney vacation was already a month ago. The last week of February you could feel spring in the air but March has officially arrived like a lion. That’s to be expected in northern Michigan-heck, it will probably go out like a lion too. But I’ll keep hoping!

We loved having grandpa visit this weekend! Keep on scrolling for a recap of our weekend and have a wonderful first week of March!
Friday
On my recent Friday Favorite post, I mentioned advocating for Drew to join in the school concert. He did a great job for only having a week to prepare! I am not one that likes to ruffle feathers, but I am glad I reached out and he was able to be included. Lucas did great too! He had a small speaking part he was nervous about but nailed it! Very proud of those two! I wish I would have gotten a picture of them together, but Lucas rushed off with his class after the performance.

Friday evening, we had an igloo reserved at Hop Lot. Owen was excited to get igloo “6” since he just turned 6:) I wished it would have been snowing but we still had those cozy winter vibes.

We ordered dinner (their fried chicken sandwich is soooo good) and played a game of Yahtzee. After a while, the boys got a little restless and left the igloo to go run around outside.

We spent a little time by the fire before heading home. The wind really picked up and it got very cold quickly.

Saturday
Grandpa cooked the boys a hot breakfast first thing (forgot to snap a picture). We enjoyed a slow morning hanging out playing some Mario Kart. Ryan, Dennis, and Lucas went into town for a few errands.

Our evening plan included an hour of snow tubing at Timberlee Hills! The boys LOVE doing this each winter and it was extra fun to have grandpa come along. The hill was extra slick which made for a more thrilling ride than we’ve had in the past. Owen did get thrown off his tube at one point but thankfully he was okay and wanted to keep going!

The boys lasted the whole hour, and we got quite a few runs in. It was pretty cold out though, so we headed inside to warm up with hot cocoa and pizza. It’s nice that you can preorder your pizza before you tube so it’s ready when you’re done.

We headed home and the boys watched a little bit of Star Wars with grandpa before bed.

Sunday
We eased into Sunday morning with another hot breakfast. The sun was shining so we decided to venture out of the house for some winter hiking. I love the combination of sun, cold, and snow! We wanted Lake Michigan views and headed to Treat Farm Trail in Empire. It’s a little over a mile hike to the lake so took us about an hour to get there and back. The view is totally worth it!!

We soaked it in as long as we could handle with the wind chill. Each season brings so much beauty up here and I love the transition from winter to spring with snow still on the ground and the sun shining. Also, the views of Lake Michigan never get old.

By the time we finished our hike, everyone was hungry for lunch. We drove to Glen Arbor and decided to grab a bite to eat at Arts Tavern.

We played “I Spy” with all the team pennants hanging on their ceiling. My mushroom swiss burger was delicious too. The boys also thought they were pretty cool to have their coloring sheets hung up for display on the wall.

We weren’t quite ready to head home after lunch so made a few more pit stops. First up was Crystal River. We love kayaking and fishing here in the summertime.

After that quick stop, we headed to Good Harbor Beach. The snow and ice formations were pretty neat. We did a little rock hunting too and I found a good looking Petoskey stone. The beach in winter is beautiful but it definitely makes you long for summer!

Wow!!! A great fun filled weekend for the birthday boy!!! 💗🎈🎂🎈💗
