Life Lately

Good morning! I thought I would pop on today and just update you on all the happenings with the McCarthy family. The last post I have published (besides a Friday Favorites) was on World Down Syndrome over a month ago! I guess we’ve been busy!

End of March

We spent spring break in Ohio which meant lots of quality time with family and friends. Some highlights included The Toledo Zoo and Easter celebrations with both sides of the family.

We celebrated Easter Sunday at home. The Easter Bunny hid the boys’ baskets this year so that made it extra fun. I cooked up a big ole breakfast then we got ready for church.

We typically attend 11:00 or 1:00 Mass and decided on 1:00 to give us a nice, slow Easter morning. Well, Ryan and I had no idea that there was no 1:00 mass on Easter Sunday! We arrived to an empty parking lot. We drove around, searched on Google, but nowhere was holding service after 1pm. We felt terribly guilty, but it was an honest mistake.

Lucas also picked out his new birthday bike on Easter Sunday! We happened to be in Meijer grabbing what we needed for dinner and left with a bike haha! Now that the weather is warming up, we are excited to get out for family bike rides.

April

Boy, I cannot believe we are to the end of April already! I love this time of year, when nature wakes up and the glorious sunshine renews your soul. Spring has been very up and down this month with warm, sunny days and cold, rainy days. Pretty typical I suppose! We have spent most of our times on the weekends doing spring clean-up and demo work of our old deck. The first weekend in April started with a bang (literally)–Lucas cracked his chin open! He was giving Owen a piggyback ride and collapsed right on our hard floor. Ryan took him straight to the ER where they gave him three stitches. Never a dull moment when you’re a boy mom!!

I mentioned as a Friday Favorite a few weeks ago that we had Ryan’s sister and her family in town. You can read about their visit on this post. We love getting our girl time in with sweet Hazel and Adelaide. Funny story-Hazel is not the biggest fan of Uncle Ryan. It’s pretty comical because Ryan is definitely “that uncle” haha!

Lots of other happenings this month I have mentioned in my recent Friday Favorites posts (here and here). Those include the solar eclipse, a virtual cooking class through the school, and Ryan’s birthday!

We have also spent quite a bit of time outdoors this month! I have taken Owen to a few nature classes, we have made random beach stops to rock hunt, and multiple trips to Veronica Valley and other parks. Ryan took the boys out fishing for the first time this year since the lake never froze for ice fishing.

Soccer also started this month! Last Saturday we had our first game and won! Lucas scored two pretty awesome goals which is already more than he scored last season haha! Andrew also kept up with his team the whole game and kicked the ball a few times. It was pretty chilly, but I love watching my boys play their hearts out. I also love watching Ryan coach:)

Currently…

Grandpa arrived on Monday! Yesterday, he took Owen out for the day and from what I hear they had a pretty great time. Owen was very excited to tell me about the multiple salamanders he found and the baby Canadian Geese. (Grandpa said ducks and Owen made sure to correct him haha).

All three boys had soccer practice last night, so grandpa joined us for that. Owen doesn’t have games yet, but this is his third season, and he’s come so far! I used to have to really encourage him to participate and now he gives it his all which is awesome. I mean he has an older brother who begs him to play every day so that’s probably part of it!

The rest of the week is pretty typical with school, Faith Formation class tonight, and soccer practice again tomorrow. Hopefully I will pop back on again to share more about Granda’s visit and our upcoming weekend. I’ll try to get a roundup of favorites this Friday too. Thanks for stopping by today and enjoy the rest of your week!!
