Summer Preview Weekend

Annie May 6, 2024 Comments2

Hi there! What a beautiful weekend we had! It sure did give us a taste of what’s to come soon. I try not to rush the seasons and still plan to fully enjoy spring, but if Mother Nature is going to give us some summer vibes, we’re taking advantage!

Unfortunately, I have Number 2 home today. Poor kiddo got sick on the way to school:( If you keep reading, you’ll see that the van was cleaned out this weekend, so I got to do that all over again! Mom life!!

We enjoyed a pretty low-key weekend over here. It was a perfect balance of productivity and relaxation. Keep on reading for the details and have a wonderful week!

Friday

The weather was glorious picking up the boys from school on Friday. Very little wind and pure sunshine. Lucas informed me that he earned ROAR Model of the Week! I am beyond proud of his hard work and effort at school. He also got to hold a baby chick:)

The boys played outside for quite some time after school. Our neighbor’s grandson was over, so they had fun playing soccer and in the sand with him. Ryan wanted to go morel hunting at Veronica Valley. Last year, we got completely skunked. The weather has cooperated a lot better this spring, so our hopes were high we would find them soon.

We looked for a good 10 minutes, and the boys lost interest. They headed to the frog pond to search for frogs instead haha.

Well, before long Ryan got our attention because he found one! He had previously told the family that whoever found the first morel of the season earned a $50 shopping spree. Lucas, “Man, I really wanted that $50.” I guess you shouldn’t have given up so soon lol! Ryan ended up finding one more, Lucas found two, and I found two. Not too bad for our first haul of the season!

Drew enjoyed his time on the swings. He doesn’t really care about morel mushrooms haha.

Mama bear was getting hungry so Ryan dropped me off while he took the boys one more place to check for morels. I made a homemade crunch wrap supreme (yum) and enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the sunset. Later, Drew and I played a game of Yahtzee. No Yahtzee’s for either of us, but Drew won! It’s his favorite game:)

Saturday

Everyone slept in on Saturday since we were up late and no soccer game. I made some bacons and eggs for breakfast that we put together to make sandwiches. It was also nice to enjoy my coffee on our upper deck. Yay for warmer temperatures!

I wouldn’t say we are huge Star Wars fans, but I love myself a theme day! The boys dressed in their shirts and we watched a little bit of “The Empire Strikes Back” later in the day. I think the boys had too much energy for a movie though haha.

The majority of Saturday was spent conquering some productive tasks. Ryan continued to make progress on the deck while I tackled cleaning out my van. I lost steam quickly but got her done. We’ll see how long it lasts;) ***Edited to add not very long!!

Once late afternoon hit, we decided to call it a wrap on productivity and take it easy the rest of the day. We loaded the boys up in the truck to grab the lawn mower from the storage unit then took a walk on the bike trail near our house.

Everyone was pretty hungry upon arriving home, so we just did a “grab dinner.” Grab what you can from the pantry and fridge to make something lol. Ryan and I did quesadillas, Owen and Drew grilled cheese, and Lucas Ramen noodles. We relaxed for a bit (this is when we turned Star Wars on) and then decided to take the kayaks out for the first time this year.

Here’s some throwback photos when we dressed up as Star Wars characters Halloween 2017:)

We do not have our dock in yet, so getting in and out of the kayaks was a bit of a challenge but we managed! It wasn’t the sunset we were hoping for but still extremely peaceful to be out on the water. Ryan cast some lines and we paddled around near our cottage.

I had been promising the boys homemade Oreo McFlurries and told them I would make them after kayaking. I think if I had a standing mixer they would have turned out better but the boys still devoured them! They were more like milkshakes than a McFlurry. After putting the boys to bed, I started a new book Throne of Glass and went to bed myself.

Sunday

I didn’t take too many pictures on Sunday. We went to Mass and then ran a few errands in town afterward. The boys pretty much spent the entire afternoon outside. We even ended up in swim trunks running through the sprinkler! We sure felt those summer vibes this weekend and enjoyed the taste of what’s to come!

I “made” (Costco) tamales and Spanish rice for dinner since it was Cinco de Mayo. We had been eating Mexican since Thursday haha but it’s Ryan’s favorite so no complaints! Sunday evening would have been perfect for kayaking–the lake was glass and a beautiful sunset. However, Ryan was still working on the deck and it was getting late and I needed to get those dirty boys showered and in bed. I still enjoyed it from the window though!

I am hoping Lucas feels better tomorrow, that it’s just one of those 24-hour things. As for the week ahead, we have some appointments, soccer, and are looking forward to a weekend getaway! Thanks for stopping by today!
